On a blustery Sunday morning in November, Wixams Runners hosted their first community 5k and kids’ fun run, bringing together runners of all abilities from the local area. Despite the windy conditions, the event was a resounding success, with 120 participants taking on the 5k challenge and 35 enthusiastic youngsters tackling the kids’ fun run.
The event was made possible thanks to the generous support of local sponsors. Their contributions helped to cover the costs of the event, ensuring that everyone who participated received a well-deserved medal, and 5k runners also received a finishers bag filled with goodies. All proceeds went to Teenage Cancer Trust and Family Holiday Charity – over £1600.
“We were thrilled with the turnout for our first community run,” said Adrian, a member of the Wixams Runners group. “It was fantastic to see so many people come together to support the event and the charities. The atmosphere was amazing, and everyone had a great time. Local residents came and marshalled at the event which we are grateful for, and special thanks to the team of organisers.”
Wixams Runners believe that running is not just a physical activity; it’s a social experience. The group provides a supportive and friendly environment where people can connect with like-minded individuals, improve their fitness, and have fun. They encourage everyone to come along and join them, regardless of their running ability.
The event was also a graduation for the Wixams Runners couch to 5k group who have been working hard over the last few months to achieve this milestone.
Wixams Runners is a friendly and inclusive running group that welcomes runners of all abilities. They meet at the Barratt’s marketing suite on Southern Cross on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm, and Sundays at 9am.
